Mildred Burk, 95, formerly of the area, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at New Mark Care Center in Kansas City, MO.
Born May 7, 1922 in Kahoka, MO, she was the daughter of Robert Glenwood and Anna Mae (Brookhart) Wells.
A graduate of Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO, she had taught at the Wells School near Ballard, MO.
She married Rev. Walter C. Burk on November 26, 1941 in Wyacnoda, MO, and for the next 60 years, she played the role of a minister's wife. She was very devoted to both the Lord and her family. Walter preceded her in death on September 16, 2001.
Mildred had held membership in P.E.O. Chapter KF and The daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are three sons, C. Dean Burk of Guadalajara, Mexico, Charles W. Burk of Wood River, Max L. (Connie) Burk of Kansas City, MO; daughter, Susan McMahon of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Jeff, Brad, Steve (Karen), Michael (Megan Sutton) and Melissa Burk; and five great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; granddaughter, Rebecca Burk; two brothers, Eldred and Chester Wells; sister, Zelna Welker; and son-in-law, Gene McMahon.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Monday, January 29 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River. Rev. Bob Battles will officiate.
Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
