Lestine Mae Thien, 91, passed away 3:25 am, Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Cedarhurst of Bethalto.

Born on May 20, 1927 in St. Louis, she was the daughter of Lester L. and Audrey M. (Neal) French.

An enthusiast of book and inspiring children to read, she had worked for the Wood River Library from 1943-65, then with the Lewis and Clark Library System from 1965-69 before becoming the librarian at East Alton-Wood River High School in 1969 until her retirement in 1990.  She was a member of the Friends of Wood River Library and the Wood River Genealogy Club.

On May 1, 1950 at Camp Bliss, TX, she married Ervin August Thien.  He died July 5, 2015.

Surviving are four sons, Ervin Joseph Thien, Leslie Wayne (Becky) Thien, Douglas Edward (Rosella) Thien and Eric Lynn (Debbie) Thien all of Wood River; 11 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a brother, Lester L. French of Wood River.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter-in-law, Julia Thiein; great granddaughter, Francesca McCoy; and sister, Betty Jean Estes.

Visitation will be from 5-8 pm Thursday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.  A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am Friday at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River.  Father Donald Wolford will officiate.

Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.
