Josephine M. "Jo" (Compagno) Ufert, 89, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family at 10:05 am, Friday, January 25, 2019.

Born in  Alton on February 6, 1929, she was the daughter of Rosario "Ross" and Nancy (Rao) Compagno.

She had worked as a bookkeeper for Ted Price Real Estate before retiring.

Jo was member of Holy Angels Parish in Wood River.  She was an avid bowler for many years and served as league secretary; a past member of Alton-Wood River "600 Club" of which she served as secretary/treasurer; enjoyed playing cards with her family; and an enthusiastic St. Louis Cardinal and "Fighting Illini" fan.

On February 7, 1948 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, she married Fred E. Ufert, Jr..  He died July 18, 2007.

Surviving are her daughter, Nancy (Terry) Fairless of Wood River; grandchildren, Troy Ufert, David (Stephanie) Ufert, Anthony Ufert, Michele (Dustin) Mullins, Christopher (Heather) Fairless, Terri Piotrowski, Colin (Lisa) Overmeyer; ten great grandchildren, Randy Skiff, Sidney Ufert, Dylan and Dalton Overmeyer, Camden Mullins, Kelsey Barnes, Skyler, Tyler, Tayler and Lee Ann Piotrowski; numerous nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Gale Ufert of Wood River.

Her parents; son, Fred Ufert, III; brothers, Sam, John, Paul and "Little" Johnny Compagno; sisters, Bessie Little, Anne Elledge, Rose Foster and Elizabeth Compagno preceded in death.

Visitation will be from 4-8 pm, Monday at Holy Angels Parish Church in Wood River, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Tuesday.  Father Jeff Holtman will officiate.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Alton.

Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Parish, Masses or OSF St. Anthony's Hospice.
