James Anthony Yates, 51, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2019 at his residence.

Born August 4, 1967 in Alton, he was the son of James F. and Sandra K. (Linenfelser) Yates of Wood River.

He had been employed by Apex Barge Line, working his way up to first mate, a tankerman, he had been a carpenter for Dave Reynolds Construction and an inspector for Saybold.

He enjoyed getting together with family and friends, playing horseshoes and pool, enjoyed sport and Cardinal baseball.

Surviving are his parents; brother, David Lee Smith, sisters, Carolyn (Julius) Waigiri, Stephanie (Alan) Spann; several loving aunts and uncles as well as cousins and many dear friends.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, James O. and Hester Yates, 'Doc' abd Grace Rider, Alfred Linenfelser, Dorothy Burnett and his canine companion, "Clara Belle".

Visitation will be from 4-7 pm, Thursday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River where services will be conducted at 11 am, Friday.  Father Donald Wolford will officiate.

Burial will follow in Woodland Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Angels Parish.
