Aldridge D. "Denny" Gaines, 90, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at his residence.

Born September 14, 1930 in Bemis, TN, he was the son of Willie Shelton and Lottie (Yarbro) Gaines.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, he worked as a car foreman for Illinois Terminal and Norfolk Southern Railroads before retiring.

On August 11, 1951 in Mississippi, he married Norma "Jean" Pope.  She survives.

Surviving also are three sons, Allen Gaines of Holiday Shores, Brad (Donna) Gaines of Wood River, Jeff Gaines of Godfrey; daughter, Jan Timmins of Wood River; 10 grandchildren, David Gaines, Scott (Daisy) Gaines, Hope (Drew) Mader, Daniel Timmins, Josh (Jeni) Timmins, Trish (Corey) Murphy, Bradley Gaines, Brett Gaines, Jill Gaines, Krista Gaines; 10 great grandchildren, Logan, Lucas and Samara Gaines, Mary Hager, Wren and Willow Mader, Owen and Elliott Timmins, Dallas and Blair Murphy, Kendall Gaines; and a sister, Sue Hargreaves of Sacramento, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willie and Robert Gaines; and a sister, Clara Marie Gaines.

Family service and burial were conducted at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.  Rev. Richard Newcom officiated.

Memorials are suggested to Whitelaw Baptist Church in Wood River.
